Cycling through Lecce, you will get to know and explore the main historical sites of the city better known as the Florence of the South.

The guided tour starts from Porta Napoli, where you will be welcomed by the imposing Obelisk, built in 1822 based on a design by Luigi Cipolla, to commemorate the arrival in Lecce of Ferdinando Di Borbone. In its four facades it tells the mythological history of the compartments of Terra D’Otranto. In front, the majestic door that gives access to the ancient city, built in Lecce stone in 1548 in honor of Charles V, does not go unnoticed. The itinerary continues along Via Giuseppe Palmieri between churches and baroque palaces, along this road you come across the Church of San Luigi or Santa Maria della Porta, the Paisiello theatre, Palazzo Palmieri built in the 16th century but remodeled in the Baroque era. You will reach Piazza Duomo, a rare example of a “closed square” and one of the most beautiful in Italy. To access this square you have to cross the propylaea, here we find the beautiful baroque cathedral dedicated to the Assumption, the 72 meter high bell tower, the “L” shaped bishop’s palace which recalls the carousel of the 70s and the Seminary palace today seat of the Diocesan Museum. You will continue along the main street until you reach the Ex Convent of the Teatini with the adjoining Church of Sant’Irene, patron saint of Lecce before being replaced by Sant’Oronzo. The itinerary continues, crossing Piazzetta Castromediano, until reaching the basilica of Santa Croce, symbol of the Lecce baroque and the adjacent convent or Palazzo dei Celestini. Then, the suggestive Piazza Sant’Oronzo which houses the amphitheater an extraordinary piece of Roman Lecce, the Sedile, the small church of San Marco and the column which supports the statue of the protector Sant’Oronzo.

Next, you will pedal in the direction of Gallipoli crossing the coastal landscapes of Porto Casereo.

You will start from the Greek Fountain, in Corso Roma to begin the visit from this symbolic monument of the city dating back to the 3rd century. You will cross the 17th century brick bridge to find yourself on the islet, which collects the old part, that of the historic centre. Here you will admire the 13th century Angevin-Aragonese Castle. of Byzantine layout and you will admire the splendid Cathedral of S. Agata with baroque architecture. There will be no shortage of glances and peeks at other wonderful churches that characterize this city before arriving at the coast and admiring the coast road with its enchanting beaches.

You will continue in the direction of Otranto, observing the wonderful Baroque-style locks along the coast.

For those who want to discover a city that speaks of the East but with roots firmly in the heel of Italy, Otranto is the right city. You will be thrilled when you are welcomed within the mighty walls of the ancient city or when you find yourself in front of the monumental mosaic of the cathedral considered the largest in Europe.

Thanks to your guide in the historic center of Otranto, you will listen to the events of the Turkish siege with the 800 martyrs of Otranto, who became saints, whose skeletons are kept in the cathedral. Or when from the top of the Torre Matta you can admire the profile of the Otranto coast bathed by the sea.

You will continue cycling in the direction of the Alimini Lakes and then return to Otranto.
