Locorotondo, among the most beautiful villages in Italy, is the community of the Itria Valley that has remained most linked to traditions and that has best known how to preserve the authenticity of native arts and crafts including stone working. The name suggests the circular shape of the historic center which is clearly visible coming from Martina Franca. The town crowns the hill with its row of compact houses with cummerse roofs, i.e. sharp roofs covered with limestone chiancarelle. The ancient heart of the town is a truly unique place capable of exerting uncommon suggestions and charm. From its viewpoint you can admire an exciting area: a mosaic of small vineyards marked by dry stone walls, patches of Mediterranean forest and silvery olive groves surrounding ancient farms, thousands of trulli scattered in the districts. Here you will taste, before leaving, a good glass of red wine accompanied by local taralli.

Along rural roads in the heart of the Mediterranean scrub, surrounded by expanses of thousand-year-old olive trees, you will be able to observe the places we love and live in every day. You will reach a splendid Masseria a few km from Monopoli. In the strip of land on the border between the provinces of Bari and Brindisi, the green of the olive trees interrupts to reveal a treasure of Puglia, a village of peasant life, in symbiosis with nature and respecting traditions. Starting from the 16th century, the territory between Fasano, Monopoli and Ostuni welcomed numerous farm buildings, characteristic defensive and agricultural defense structures of the countryside, around which the economic and social life of the time took place. Today you will visit a centuries-old Masseria and have a tasting of Apulian oils.

You will continue and continue with a ride towards Cisternino, the pearl of the Itria Valley.

We will visit the Mother Church of San Nicola, a solemn 12th century construction built on the foundations of an ancient basilica. We will stop to observe the neoclassical façade, built in 1848 to replace the previous one, in Romanesque style. Next, we will stop at a panoramic point to enjoy the enchanting view of the Itria Valley, dotted with magical trulli and ancient olive trees.

We will continue our walk through the streets of Cisternino observing various examples of the so-called “spontaneous architecture”, with buildings intimately linked to the most ancient traditions of humanity. We will pass by the most prestigious historic noble buildings of Cisternino, walking in the picturesque alleys of the village, embellished with traditional Apulian chianche stones.

We will also reach the majestic Norman tower dating back to the 11th century, which soars towards the sky with its seventeen meters on one of the highest hills in the Murge. We will arrive near the church of San Quirico and Giulitta, an evocative 18th century temple and the scene of a mysterious legend.

We will continue in the direction of Ostuni.
